What is Radiofrequency (RF)?

Radio Frequency (RF) treatment uses electrical pulses to effectively tighten skin and reduce wrinkles. It works by selectively delivering heat energy to the middle and lower levels of skin stimulating new collagen growth.

What can radiofrequency (RF) energy do?

  • Facial Tightening. Eliminates fine lines and wrinkles and sagging eyelids/chins.
  • Body Tightening. Eliminates stretch marks and sagging skin.
  • Collagen Reformation and facial rejuvenation.
  • Body contouring and circumferential reduction.
  • Slimming.
  • Reduction of cellulite.

Who should not undergo this procedure?

As long as you are generally healthy and don’t have any skin diseases or infections in the area treated, there are few medical reasons why patients should not undergo this treatment.

People with sensory disturbance to the skin may not be considered good candidates as this could make the reporting of discomfort during the procedure unreliable, leading to overheating and potential harm.

Although there is no evidence that this treatment is harmful for pregnant women, you would generally be advised to wait until after you have given birth before embarking upon a course of treatment.

More importantly, people with electrical devices e.g., pacemakers, or metal implants e.g., artificial metal hip joints, heart valves or dental plates, cannot be treated because RF energy flowing through the body may interfere with these devices or heat up metal implants, which could be dangerous.

Are there any precautions you should take before the procedure?

You should try to avoid doing anything that will irritate your skin immediately before treatments. (suntanning, scrubbing) All metallic accessories such as chains, earrings and watch should be removed from the body before starting RF.

How is the procedure done?

  • The treatment area is thoroughly cleansed to remove excess oils and impurities.
  • If required, a numbing cream can be applied prior to the procedure and allowed to set in for 30 mins.
  • A treatment grid ink transfer may be applied over the treatment area to assist our doctor or therapists in navigating the area whilst delivering the RF energy. This helps to assure an even application of the RF energy and to prevent inadvertent overlapping of treatment.
  • A coupling gel may then also be applied over the treatment area which acts as an additional barrier between the surface layers of your skin and the handpiece of the device.
  • Our doctor or therapist will then commence the RF treatment working across the treatment area.
  • Once completed a soothing gel or lotion will be applied to your skin.

Is the procedure painful? How does the procedure feel like?

Treatments are painless. As the treatment is carried out you will experience brief, deep heating sensations every time the RF energy is delivered to your skin and underlying tissue. At Clariancy Aesthetic Clinic, our RF device have a cooling system to protect your skin from overheating, and thus making treatments very comfortable.

What are the precautions you should take after treatments?

No special care is required after treatments. Application of soothing/moisturising ,cool water rinses or ice packs can be applied to the treatment areas to ease skin irritation if required.

What is the downtime after RF treatments?

There is no downtime. You can return to work immediately after treatments.

When will I see results?

Your skin will feel tighter immediately after the first session. You may require multiple sessions to achieve the overall desired effects. More skin tightening improvements will appear gradually over the next few months even after treatments. Our doctor will be able to determine a course of treatments specific to you and your needs. Results are said to last up to a couple of years but we advise regular maintenance treatments to enhance the overall effects.

What are the potential complications from RF treatments?

In the majority of cases, they are no complications from RF treatments. On occasions, swelling, redness, bumps and blisters may appear on or around the treated area. They typically disappear in a few days to a week. Very rarely, RF treatments may give rise to depressions in the skin. This is attributed to the overheating of underlying tissue causing fat atrophy or excessive tightening, giving you a sunken appearance in the affected area. At Clariancy Aesthetic Clinic, our doctor and therapists are professionally trained and such complications are virtually non-existent.
