Saggy Skin

As we age, saggy skin becomes more and more of a problem. The skin on our face begins to loose elasticity and facial muscles are no longer able to hold facial skin in place. This often results in saggines around the eyes, cheek, chin and neck regions. Saggy skin is not only confined to the face. The rest of body can also be afffected, namely, the arms, breasts, abdomen and thighs. This is usually the result of loss of skin elasticity as we age but can also arise from recent weight loss/gain and pregnancy.

Availble treatments for Saggy Skin

Collagen Lotions

Collagen is an active ingredient in a number of lotions on the market that improves the skin's elasticity and can help slow the process of sagging skin, sometimes reversing the effects. Twice a day, massage the lotion gently into the skin. Results of firmer looking skin should be noticed within two to three weeks after using lotions that contain collagen.

Exercise

One of the oldest ways to firm skin is through exercise. People who gain weight, or lose weight quickly, tend to get saggy skin. Exercise works the muscles and within three months of beginning an exercise program, you should notice your skin has become firmer. Exercises for toning the body are Pilates, strength training and aerobics. Sometimes people who lose a significant amount of weight in a short amount of time, have drastic saggy skin. Exercise will not totally tighten up the extra skin so other alternatives, like surgery, may be required to eliminate the extra skin.

Body Wraps

Spa treatments, such as body wraps, are a great way to firm and tone your skin. These wraps contain antioxidants and minerals that clean your skin's pores and tighten your skin. With body wraps, a solution is applied to your body while you're lying down. Your body is then wrapped in heated bandages or a thermal blanket and it is left in place for about an hour. After the hour is up, you are unwrapped, rinsed off and moisturizer is applied to your body. Your skin is left feeling softer, smoother and tighter.

Radiofrequency

Radiofrequency (RF) treatment uses electrical pulses to effectively tighten skin. It works by selectively delivering heat energy to the middle and lower levels of skin stimulating new collagen growth. Radio Frequency technology remains a popular procedure because it can deeply penetrate the lower levels of skin without causing any damage to the surface. Results are usually observed after one treatment and continues to improves even at 3 months after the first treatment. Maintenance treatments are encouraged to maintain and enhance the overall effects.

Slimline POD O2 Deluxe

Convective dry thermal heat and deep penetrating near-infrared heat is administered simultaneously with therapeutic, intense LED light, P-NIR wavelengths and 99% pure oxygen. This unique combination of technology naturally reduces fat mass content, which secretes leptin hormones and stimulates the hypothalamus to help clients lose weight and tone their bodies in three ways: ONE: The Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is increased in a manner similar to physical activity; just as a person's cardio system and metabolism would be stimulated by engaging in vigorous exercise. TWO: The body's "Weight Set Point" is decreased and adjusted to allow fat to be burned at a higher rate. Only by changing our metabolism and increasing our BMR can we permanently lower our body's "set points" and maintain lower ideal weight. THREE: Redundant excess skin from weight loss will be tightened. Fine lines and signs of photo-aging will be reduced by the complex of increased circulation and new cell growth enhanced by the intensive LED light modules.

Tips on Preventing Saggy Skin

The best way to deal with saggy skin is to ensure that you take a proactive approach to skin care and follow a few simple steps to help prevent the early onset of sagginess. Here are some tips to help keep your skin firm:

Keep Properly Hydrated

It is important for adults to drink at least 8 full glasses of water a day. Water is your skins natural cleansing system. Water constantly works to flush away toxins and waste products to keep your skin soft and healthy.

Protect Yourself From the Sun

Sun damage is one of the leading causes of premature saggy skin and facial wrinkles. Always apply a sunscreen with an SPF rating of at least 15 if you plan on being outdoors for more than 30 minutes. Your sunscreen is one of your most powerful weapons against saggy skin and aging spots.

Don’t Smoke

Avoid smoking at all costs. If you are currently a smoker, do whatever it takes to quit – permanently. Smoking actively increases the signs of aging and can increase your risk of developing sagging skin significantly.

Keep Your Skin Clean

Never go to bed with make up on. This will lead to increased stress on your skin and can cause pores to clog and become infected. Be sure to wash your entire face daily with a gentle cleanser. The key here is not to rub, scrape, or be overly abrasive in the process. As with most things in life, moderation is the key to achieving favorable long term results.
